I realized that almost a month has gone by and I haven’t posted any of the photos from my 30th birthday. Since it fell on a Sunday, my family and I opted to celebrate the day before in Frankenmuth, Michigan at the Bavarian Inn. Because it was a special occasion, I indulged by enjoying the beer sampler which consisted of four ounce glasses featuring four different draft beers: Hofbräu Original, Heidelberg Light, Bavarian Inn Dark, and Blue Moon.

Before dinner was served, a woman playing the accordion approached our table and performed the song “Happy Birthday” while my family sang to me. (Note: I absolutely love accordions!) I think 5-6 years ago I probably would have died from embarrassment, but that is no longer the case as I am just happy to be alive. Joie de vivre — French for “joy of life.”

My cake was created by my all-time favorite bakery, Sweet and Savory Bakeshop of Oxford: white cake with raspberry filling and butter cream frosting that featured the book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott.

Celebrating my birthday with family was the perfect way to celebrate my third decade on Earth. I could not have asked for a better birthday weekend. Here’s to another free trip around the sun and many more to come!
